Are Kongs Dishwasher Safe: How to Wash them Properly?
Every dog lover is familiar with KONG. KONG toys are among the most popular options for pet animals today, and oh boy, pooches absolutely love them! There are different sizes and types as well, which means no matter how large your pet is or what his needs are, there’s a KONG out there for him/her!
However, like all toys, they tend to get dirty and can then start causing health problems. Is there a way to avoid this? Can we wash them in the dishwasher? Well, we have all the answers here for you!
Are KONGs Dishwasher Safe?
Yes, but there are a few things you should keep in mind. For starters, you should wash KONG toys only in top-rack dishwashers, and this holds true only for the classic rubber toys from the brand. You can also use regular dishwasher detergent.
How to wash a KONG – The alternative ways
If the dishwasher is not an option or if you would like to find other ways, keep reading!
- Handwash: Take a large bowl of warm water. The bowl should be large enough to submerge the KONG completely. Mix soap in the warm water and leave the toy in it for at least an hour. After the wait is over, use a bottle brush to clean the toy and then rinse it.
- Quick wash: If you want to clean the slobber off quickly, just run it down with a hose in the garden or use warm water from the tap. Use high pressure if there are food pieces stuck inside the toy.
A word of caution
While washing, if you see any loose parts hanging or if you feel like it has been played with enough, we recommend that you change the toy. Despite being created to last a long time, they will succumb to regular playing and chewing. When that happens, the loose pieces may cause choking and other dangers.
