Shih Tzu will generally start to bark at the 7th or 8th week. Some animals take time to find their voice, but the majority of them start early. Shih Tzu puppies are comparatively less demanding and less yappy, but when they become irritating, try these tips.

Tip 1: Hold The Muzzle

When your pet recognizes you and understands a few things, you must start training him. Once he steps out the door, he will surely bark to some strangers. At that time, gently hold his muzzle closed and teach them to learn about your expressions or gestures. You can show the sign of “Shhh” or “Stop” anything you want. After a few seconds, when he stops, free his muzzle, and praise him. You can also try some treats when he obeys your order.

Tip 2: Do Not Yell

It is in a dog’s nature that they yell if they find something uncomfortable. But if you start yelling at them when they are barking, they think that you are joining them and barking along with them at the strangers. This way, they may feel more stress and increase their barking. Shih Tzu is not different in this case. So, avoid yelling at your beloved pooch and try calming him.

Tip 3: Teach Commands

If your dog doesn’t know when to bark and when not to bark, you should teach them various commands such as “Quiet” or “Speak.” Train your Shih Tzu that way that he starts barking when you say, “Speak.” After that, say “Quiet” and see if he stops yapping. Keep some delicious treats with you and offer them as soon as he stops barking after following your commands.

Tip 4: Give Attention

Sometimes, such babies can’t accept the fact that they have to play on their own. If they don’t get enough attention from their favorite “hooman,” then such situations may lead to some serious behavior like barking. Shih Tzu feels lonely when no one is around, so try not to keep him away for a longer period and be attentive.

Tip 5: Avoid Situations Causing Excessive Barking
